I stumbled over this website the other day and it is a hoot.
I enjoy the ones from Lane County 'cause that's where I live and I've been to some of these spots.
I was so inspired, I adapted a real story into one about 'bigfoot'.

I do some web design on the side.
Here are links to some sites I have built.

sugar beetswww.thesugarbeets.com

One of Eugene's coolest bands. They are living proof that hard work and perseverance are the keys to success.

palmer otterbachwww.otterbrooksongs.com

Palmer has one of the most comprhensive ideas I ever heard. Write songs, make a songbook, make a CD of the songbook and put up a site to go with it. He really thought it all out.

my 'gear'

People are obsessed with 'gear'.
Here is my 'collection'.

Ukuleleukulele

It's old and beat-up. There's no label inside. It's too delicate for live shows. For that I use one of those plastic ones that Jim Beloff makes.

Baritone
Ukulele
baritone ukulele

Baris are tuned like a guitar D G B E. Kinda too big for playing in the car but they sound nice with a regular uke. I used it a lot on the Evil Ukulele CD.

Orange Drillorange drill

My dad found this drill at a bargain store. It is variable speed reversible with a torque adjustment. It matches the color of my plastic ukulele.

Requintorequinto

There are two different kinds of Requinto, This one is like a real small classical guitar. The tuning is (low to high) A D G C E A. You may notice that the four highest strings are the same notes as a soprano ukulele. Cool eh?

The other kind of Requinto has FIVE strings. I don't know how they are tuned, but in place of frets they have nylon strings tied all the way around the neck. I have seen mariachi dudes in Mexico adjusting the intonation of these 'moveable frets' and then tightening them by burning with a cigarette lighter so they shrink.

My requinto is a Tres Pinos brand. I bought it at a music store on the Plaza de Mariachis in Guadalajara. It's small enough to fit in the overheads on a plane. It sounds a lot better than those crappy 'travel guitar' things.

Red Weed Eaterweed eater

I had a green weed-eater but my friends Sylvain and Eric lost it or something and they replaced it with this. It's electric. It works fine but it won't cut thru the big blackberry stalks the way a machete will.

Mini-Stratmini-strat

A generic cheepo made-in-Indonesia kid's electric guitar. It won't stay in tune very well in standard tuning so sometimes I tune it like a requinto. You can hear it in standard tuning on the song 'Mukilteo Moon' on the Evil Ukulele CD.

Parlour Guitarparlour guitar

I hate dreadnaughts! They are big, ugly and boxy and real uncomfortable to play. I guess they're ok for rhythm but for single note stuff? Forget it! A dreadnaught is a Tyrannosaurus with a big body and little teeny hands. Yeah, yeah, so Doc Watson and Tony Rice use Dreadnaughts... So what? They probably have a three thousand dollar mic on that dinosaur. Did I mention that I hate dreadnaughts?

This is a Canadian guitar with a solid cedar top and 3-ply cherry back and sides. It is strung with .012 to .054 bronze strings. It has a pickup inside. It is LOUD. It is CRISP. And it can beat up your dreadnaught. Pretty macho huh?
