The Eugene UkeToberFest...
...a presentation of Cherry Blossom Musical Arts will feature Ukulele concerts, and open mic, hula dancing, jam sessions, workshops and vendors, a swap meet and prizes. The event will be held at a variety of venues in downtown Eugene. We hope you can come and join the fun.
Concert
A dozen local acts with ukulele up front. These include traditional and modern Hawaiian music, Tin Pan Alley songs from the Jazz Age, plus some contemporary and unusual approaches to the instrument.
Workshops
Eight different workshops, and hour and a half long, to improve your ukulele skills, learn new songs and help you have more fun with your uke. For those who don't play, there is a hula dance workshop and also an entertaining presentation by Buck Mueller on the history of Hawaiian music with ukulele demonstrations too.
The Big Strum-Off
There will be mini-concerts all day and the highlight will be the strum-off at Saturday Market where the Ukulaneys, Mele Ohana and other ukulele groups will make the biggest ukulele band you ever saw.
Vendors and Swap Meet
There will be ukuleles and related goodies for sale all day and the second annual musicians swap meet. Bring your old ukuleles, guitars, amps and gadgetry. Wheel and deal with other musicians and do some jamming too.
Open Mic
This is your chance to step out. Strut your stuff at the open mic, it's so much more clever than karaoke. Plus there will be some prizes, Ukuleles, accessories, CDs, and books.
Jamming
When ukesters get together, it's only a matter of time before they're strumming. More than a sing along 'cause you can play along and hey... ukulele is easy to play.
