I was a kid in the 60s. I remember the music from radio, tv, movies, jukeboxes. I was lucky to hear such a wide variety of music; folk, country, classical, pop, I like 'em all. By the mid-seventies I was performing in bands and later as a solo act. As I began to write my own songs, my style was influenced by the rock and pop of that era, but there was a problem. Blame it on my eclectic taste, but I could never settle down into one genre. I explored rock, funk, "sensitive-songwriter" bilge. Nothing really worked.
I stopped trying to put a label on my style. I borrow from different musical traditions and adjust them to my liking. If other people like what I do, that's great. Artists and musicians speak through our work, it's for others to describe.
When I formed my surf band, El Borko, I studied the classic surf tunes, and in doing so, became re-acquainted with the music of my childhood. I still really like it, not just rock, but the mainstream schlock of this period as well.
For 2026, I plan to promote my original songs and expand my 60s repertoire. There are so many fun things to do with it. I can play solo, duo, sometimes even a band. I have many excellent players to work with.
I'm reviving long-forgotten original tunes and adding new 60s and 70s songs to the list. I've begun performing a solo version the album "Bridge Over Troubled Water", which, with some work (and luck) may expand into something bigger.
I hope you are all doing as well as we can in these messed up times. If you have enjoyed my music up to now, I hope I can provide a little pleasure or inspiration or something to make your days go better in the coming year.
Thanks for your support on the journey so far.
