Gotta reach for it

Sometimes our reach exceeds our grasp. We run for that train but it's already gone, we jump the ditch but fall in the water. When this happens to me, I beat myself up about it. I think that's both good and bad. Good because we need to understand our failures so we won't repeat them, bad because we can blame ourselves for things beyond our control. Most important is that we don't give up.

My band, El Borko just had to cancel three cool shows because we all got covid and one of us is still sick. Add to that some uncertainty about the future now that our drummer (Cameron Wick) lives in New Orleans now and our bassist (James Daley) just graduated from U-Oregon with his PhD, so how long before he gets his big break? We've played a lot of fun shows around the Northwest. We still have shows here in Eugene/Springfield and help from our friends Tim Miller, Ken Sokolov, and of course Jon Neher. I've been lucky to have all these guys for their musical skills and friendship for the years.

So the future is unclear but you gotta reach for it. We learn from our mistakes and then make new ones, but we grow from our experience and recognize new opportunities. There's always another train to catch, another ditch to jump, and maybe next time, we'll get closer to the scenes in our imagination.
